Yelp and Reddit are in your AI answers now. Here's what it means.

When an AI assistant answers “best coffee shop near me,” you might assume it just reads Google and repeats what it finds. It does not. In our 2026 Local AI Search Report, the sources behind local answers were a lot broader than one listing.

Where AI gets its local facts

Across the local answers we studied:

  • Google Business Profile links were the single most-cited source.
  • Yelp appeared at positions 3 to 4 on 77% to 88% of pages.
  • Reddit accounted for 4% to 6% of AI citations, and showed up on nearly half of “best in city” pages.

So the answer your future customer hears is assembled from several places, not just your own listing.

Why this matters for you

Two reasons, and both are practical.

First, consistency across these sources is what makes AI confident. If Yelp still has your old address and Google has the new one, the assistant sees conflicting information and may hedge, guess, or quietly skip you for a business it is more sure about. The contradictions hurt you more than any single wrong field.

Second, these third-party sources carry opinion, not just facts. Reddit threads and Yelp reviews are conversations you do not control. You cannot script them. But you can make sure the factual record underneath, your name, address, phone, and hours, is correct everywhere AI pulls from.

The Reddit wrinkle

People trust peer recommendations, and AI has clearly noticed. Reddit is now a measurable slice of local answers. You will not manufacture authentic Reddit enthusiasm, and you should not try. What you can do is be findable and accurate, so that when someone does mention you or look you up, the facts line up and the assistant can use them with confidence.

What to do

  • Claim and correct your Yelp and major directory listings, not just Google.
  • Keep your name, address, phone, and hours identical across all of them.
  • Earn real reviews and real word of mouth. Do not fake either one.

Common questions

Does AI only use Google for local recommendations? No. In our 2026 Local AI Search Report, Google Business Profile links were the most-cited source, but Yelp appeared on 77% to 88% of pages and Reddit made up 4% to 6% of citations.

Can I control what Reddit says about my business? No, and you should not try to fake it. What you can control is your factual listings. Keeping them accurate everywhere means the information AI corroborates about you is correct.

What is the practical takeaway? Be accurate beyond Google. Consistent name, address, phone, and hours across Yelp and the major directories helps AI trust and use your information.

The bottom line

AI builds its local answers from Google, Yelp, Reddit, and more. You cannot script the conversation, but you can make sure the facts are right everywhere it looks. Consistent, accurate listings across the whole network is the part you control, and it is what LocalBasics keeps in place for you.
